You said these are SA’s best steaks

The country’s top casual restaurants for 2018 have officially been announced at the 2018 Eat Out Mercedes-Benz Best Everyday Eateries, which took place in both Gauteng and in the Western Cape. After a year-long voting period and adjudication process, the top eateries in each category were determined by public ratings received via the Eat Out app and website, in conjunction with scoring from professional Eat Out critics.

There were many categories, ranging from country-style to Italian, for which you chose the winners in each. The Eat Out Tramontina Best Steakhouse category was one of the toughest, but three great steakhouses came out on top, supported by these reviews and more.

Winner in the Western Cape: Rare Grill, Kenilworth

“I just love the Rare Grill! We have been quite a few times and have invited friends and family along – no-one has ever been disappointed. They always have different cuts on offer and they are always superb. The sides are something different and amazing (love the steamed cabbage, yup the cabbage is awesome). I nearly forgot the starters; must try their calamari with chilli. The service is always friendly and the waiters are knowledgeable. Love this place. Well done, keep it up!” – Mayola Gouveia, Eat Out reader

Winner in Gauteng: Wood & Fire, New Muckleneuk

“My family ate supper and it was a wonderful experience. We started with halloumi, chicken wings and mushroom tapas. What a delight. Not only were all 3 dishes unbelievably tasty but beautifully presented. Main dishes were rib eye, salmon and calamari. What a treat. Delicious as well as stunning presentation. We’ll definitely be back. Can’t wait for another yummy gastronomical experience.” – Debi Rolfe, Eat Out reader

Highly commended in Gauteng: The Local Grill, Parktown North

“Easily the best place to get a great steak in South Africa! I am never disappointed when I eat here and have eaten many times. The best part of the experience is that when you order a steak, that is all that arrives on the plate with all the other items on the side (the way it should be). I usually ask the waiter what is good and go with that. You can see the passion behind the restaurant in the food that is served.” – Ryan Folster, Eat Out reader
