Stop what you’re doing. Paul’s Homemade Ice Cream is now making insane ice-cream cakes

If you enjoyed luminous Disney-themed ice cream cakes as a child, or routinely struggle to choose between cake and ice cream, we have good news: Paul’s Homemade Ice Cream (PHIC) – of Ice Cream Sunday, white rabbit toffee-flavoured ice cream, and Uber delivery fame – is now making ice cream cakes.

“At one point we were getting lots of enquiries from people who wanted Paul’s ice cream at their birthday parties and events,” explains Danya Amoils of PHIC. “We thought that since cake is an ever-present element at most celebrations, we might as well play on the concept, using our ice cream. After all, an ice cream cake is just that much more exciting than regular cake.”

Flavours include chocolate vanilla stack; salted caramel and toasted marshmallow mountain; Turkish Madagascan delight (Madagascan vanilla with rosewater ice cream, topped with Turkish delight); top deck; and milk chocolate and Nutella with Oreo topping.

There’s also a range of ice cream cakes inspired by traditional cake flavours, including lemon meringue tart, cheesecake, and birthday cake. “We know everyone loves red-velvet cake, cheesecake, peppermint crisp tart, etc. Well, why not have it in ice cream form?” asks Danya. (A valid question, Danya!)

PHIC is also open to requests for customised confections – “even if they’re a bit wacky”. The standard cakes are two litres – designed to feed 20 people – and are priced at R400 excluding extras (polystyrene box, dry ice and delivery).

So, have they had any wacky orders yet?

“We get plenty of requests for wedding cakes. This way your wedding cake can double as the main dessert, and you can scoop it into cones.”

Shut up and take our money.
