Review: Delicious brekkie and stunning views at Tasty Table

The surfer’s paradise town of Jeffrey’s Bay has a lot to offer in terms of leisure, but after a few days, the dining options can become a bit repetitive. It’s around that time when The Tasty Table makes for a perfect discovery. With its superb location – right on the corner of Diaz and Drommedaris Roads – you can sit at the breakfast bar and watch the surfers head out, or grab a pavement table in the sun. It’s the ideal spot for a seaside fish-and-chips lunch, or even just a cup of coffee and a milk tart.

Food

The breakfast menu offers a full range – from light and healthy through to something a bit more substantial. The classic Tasty breakfast comprises two eggs, bacon and toast. Be sure to try the homemade tomato relish, which is the real winner of the dish. The It’s a Wrap comes with scrambled eggs, cheese, fried mushrooms, tomato relish and caramelised onions all rolled into a soft wrap.

Lunching? Enjoy the crumbed calamari wrap with cucumber and tartar sauce, the Jalapeño Burn beef burger, or one of the old-school toasted sandwiches.

Drinks

There’s a full page in the menu dedicated to coffees – both hot and iced. The Special Treat –cappuccino with a layer of condensed milk on the bottom – is definitely an irresistible treat. The lavender iced coffee, on the other hand, is refreshing and perfect if you’re looking for something different.

Service

The service is welcoming and friendly, with waiters being more than pleased to wrap up something for you to take on the go (milk tart is recommended, especially if you’re on a road trip).

Ambience

The interior is cosy but not cramped, decorated with chalkboards and flowers without feeling cluttered. The glass bakery display towards the back wall groans under the weight of fresh croissants, quiches and tarts, making the space that much more welcoming.

Best for…

A hearty breakfast after your surf, or coffee and cake with friends.
