Towerbosch: The best country-style restaurant in SA

Traditional, no-frills, delicious dining is what makes Towerbosch in Stellenbosch so deserving of its title as Best Country-Style Restaurant at the 2013 Eat Out DStv Food Network Restaurant Awards.

Food

It’s all about traditional South African food at Towerbosch. Sunday asados (Argentinian-style braais) sees meat finished on an open braai and delectable, heaped platters brought to the table. It’s Sunday lunch without the fuss of washing up! Melt-in-the-mouth lamb and sirloin vie for attention between roast potatoes, cinnamon butternut and French beans. Desserts are as traditional and yummy: think malva pudding, rose geranium milk jelly or cheesecake. It’s no-frills fare, but you’re guaranteed freshness and a good dose of nostalgia. The food is served on old-fashioned China that makes you feel like you’re in your granny’s home. During the week, the à la carte menu echoes the Sunday best, with salads, soups and a roast.

Wine
All Knorhoek estate wines are available, as well as a full bar as this space also doubles as a function and wedding venue.

Service
Friendly and helpful service gets guests in a relaxed mood.

Ambience
The thatched boma-style interior is smartly decorated with wood, leather banquettes and Persian rugs on the white screed floor. The place to be, though, is underneath the oak trees, while the little ones will love the massive lawn, jungle gym and pool.

And…

Bring the kids’ cozzies (and your own) for jumping into the pool. It’s perfect for big and small, with a little splash and paddling area.
