Vanessa Marx, executive chef of Dear Me Food World and The White Room (a nominee for the Top 10 at the 2014 Eat Out Mercedes-Benz Restaurant Awards) has resigned and will, for personal reasons, be leaving Cape Town.

According to the restaurant management team, Dear Me will continue to deliver sustainable, ethical and dietary requirement friendly breakfasts and lunches. However, Vanessa’s departure will mean a reinvention of The White Room, which has for the last two years traded as a pop-up on Thursday and Friday evenings. The White Room will therefore serve its last tasting menu on Friday 27 February 2015.

There are exciting plans afoot to turn the space into a more versatile function venue for events, food and wine pairing dinners and a space to complement Tjing Tjing Rooftop Bar. While the restaurant remains committed to using the finest sustainable and ethical produce, its future focus will be more on flexibility and hospitality. Stay tuned for further info.

Vanessa was named Eat Out’s first-ever Nederburg Rising Star at the 2013 awards, an accolade for young, fresh talent in the restaurant industry. We look forward to seeing what she’ll do next.

Owner Ilze Koekemoer said, “Vanessa made a significant contribution to the success of Dear Me. She will be missed and I would like to wish her well in her future endeavours.”
