Watch: High tea at the Belmond Mount Nelson

Afternoon tea at the Nellie, as the Belmond Mount Nelson is affectionately known, is a Cape Town institution.

In the interests of science, we decided to film a short video so you’ll know what to expect from the historic hotel’s offering.

Planning on making a booking? Here’s what you need to know:

Tea can be taken in the lounge, on the terrace, or in the garden in fine weather.

Afternoon tea currently costs R325 per adult or R185 per child. There are two seatings: from 1.30 pm to 3.30 pm, and from 3.30pm to 5.30 pm.

In addition to the afternoon tea, there is also a smaller but equally impressive morning tea, which costs R255 per person or R185 per child.

On certain holidays and special occasions such as Mother’s Day, afternoon tea is priced at R495.
