Nominations for SA’s first-ever Women in Food awards are now open

There’s never been a more exciting time to be a woman in the South African food industry. A brand new space, platform and movement called FOOD XX – created by the all-woman food design agency Studio H, in partnership with Eat Out – has everything to do with it.

The FOOD XX: Womxn in Food is a movement that intends to empower and celebrate all women in all spheres of the food industry. The movement will come to life in two annual events (the FOOD XX Symposium and the FOOD XX: Womxn in Food Awards Dinner) and will also be present online throughout the year.

Know a deserving women in the industry whose work deserves to be recognised? Make sure to nominate her before 31 December 2018 by emailing a name and motivation for the nomination to fxxdxx@studio-h.co.za.

The FOOD XX: Womxn in Food Awards categories recognise all women at all levels of the food industry who are giving back and enriching the community through food and drink; front of house; in the kitchen; in the alcohol industry; in farming; fresh voices in food such as bloggers, instagrammers and journalists; entrepreneurs; food stylists, educators and icons; and solution-driven visionaries who are creating a sustainable food future.

The impressive line-up of local and international women speakers and panelists at the all-day symposium includes the likes of British baker Lily Jones, South African writer Julie Nxadi, author and dietician Mpho Tshukudu, co-founder of Mikateko Media Ingrid Jones, and co-founder of Hope on Hopkins Distillery and master distiller Lucy Beard.

The FOOD XX: Womxn in Food Symposium and awards dinner will be held at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town on 12 February 2019. Tickets cost R1100 for both the symposium and awards, or R950 if you download the Eat Out app. If you would like to buy a ticket for yourself plus a booster ticket for someone else who cannot afford their own, pay R1900.
