Food
From unusual combintations such as white anchovy bruschetta and wild mushroom tart to crocodile, ostrich and springbok dishes, Soulsa's food bedazzles. And who can resist a hot fig pudding or pear and chocolate tarte tatin? Breakfast items like ricotta pancakes with pear and bacon and eggs Benedict ensure a faithful weekend following.
Wine
A decent selection is on offer, which makes matching the unusual dishes to appropriate wines fun.
Service
Good things take a bit of time, so settle in and revel in everything. It’s worth it.
Ambience
With its red and green theme and funky artworks, Soulsa reminds you of those tucked-away gems found in New York’s West Village. It’s fresh and vibey and the food rocks.
And...
Sunday brunch. It’s a hit. Fans come as early as 9am and some only leave after 6pm. A DJ does her thing and the atmosphere is that of a lazy street party. Word spreads quickly and the who’s who of Johannesburg’s entertainment world now tramples the doorstep. (EB)
