Food:

Still turning after all these years, serving up the classic Italian fare that has kept those wheels in motion. Fresh line fish is always a winner, cooked to perfection, while veal dishes – the most notable of which is the humble casserole – feature strongly. You can still order such classics like pâté maison, avocado Ritz and crayfish thermidor. Three-course set menus offer good value.

Wine:

A big, reasonably priced list includes the names we know and trust. Italian varietals and Italian liqueurs are available.

Service:

Old-school, complete with the cloth over the arm. Staff are deferential, but efficient, while owner Gino Lombardi greets guests in ebullient Italian style.

Ambience:

Very 70s plush. It has deep button-back chairs and carpets on the walls, but with views like this you can forgive anything.

And...:

Recently opened to the public, the upstairs deck offers bar and cocktail facilities with the most spectacular views of the city. Come early and watch the sun catching the sea as it sets over the Berea. (FC, October 2011)
