This is honest-to-goodness food at its best. The Kontreihuis chicken pie is light, healthy and layered with mushrooms, boiled egg and creamy chicken. And there are hearty country classics like lamb shank and tasty Cape Malay curry.

Wine:

A limited list, but this is one of the only places brandy connoisseurs can try Paarl Rock Superior Brandy.

Service:

This is an iconic hotel, so all guests are treated like gold.

Ambience:

On the historic Zomerlust Estate (dating back to the 1800s), the restaurant resembles an above-the-ground cellar. The terrace is in the style of an English courtyard.
