Unfussy, contemporary food is what’s on offer at this ocean-side gem. For starters, the butternut velouté with pumpkin ravioli or the traditional French onion soup are equally good bets. Moving on to something more substantial, the lamb gnocchi is a good option (if it’s on the menu), as is the springbok loin with ratatouille veggies. To round off the experience, opt for the croissant bread and butter pudding with whiskey crème anglaise.

A comprehensive but rather expensive line-up of local favourites.

Beware of the restaurant SALT in Bantry Bay. You can make a booking on the Friday and confirm on Saturday afternoon (with cellphone records to prove it) only to get there in the evening and find they’ve given away your table. Unconcerned, unprofessional.
