Food:

Starters – sushi, perfectly cooked tempura whole baby squid, dim sum et al – have an Eastern slant but main dishes are interpretations of classics. Think peppered fillet with a red-wine sauce, tarragon butter and fries.

Wine:

Red wines get more attention but the pedigreed list is quality rather than cost conscious.

Service:

Dignified and genteel.

Ambience:

The listed building houses a sophisticated dining area complete with original fireplace. Starched white napkins and champagne-hued armchairs play on a neutral palette while glass-covered walls add a touch of glamour.

I was much disappointed with the service at Czar, on running late we tried to call the restuarant, to announce our late arrival but there was no answer on the phone, upon arrival our table was already dismissed without having been called to confirm our arrival time. We were seated at the bar, where the cocktails served were divine, although the bar could do with a bit of cleaning up - straw wrappers on the floor and dusty table tops are not admirable. From where we were sitting the food presentation is one worth mentioning spectacular!

I have never been treated so badly by a restaurant. After booking and paying far in advance for the venue and ambience for a 17th party we were locked and forced to keep quiet, no music - nothing in deference to another late booking. The party was ruined, the owner was rude and unapologetic despite being clearly at fault. He has no manners and no skills and I hope he fails miserably as he deserves. I will dance at his bankrupsy hearing. No wonder Greece is failing. Go home athos! Hope never to see you again.
