Food
Fusion food sometimes gets a bad rap, but not here. The rocket salad with calamari and chorizo with garlic croutons, parmesan shavings and grilled lemon sounds jarring, but the assertive flavours are complementary. The same applies to the grilled scallop, pickled ginger and soba noodle salad topped with a sesame prawn and Japanese mayo. Evening dining is more robust, with meaty options crowding out the lighter dishes, but the flavour is retained.
Wine
Celebrates the Franschhoek valley but also provides a look-in for other regions. Well thought out and suited to a range of tastes and pockets.
Service
Well trained, knowledgeable and attentive.
Ambience
There is a variety of small rooms in this converted house, but the warm, earthy walls with pistachio highlights make the various spaces work together as a unit. The large outdoor area is ideal in fine weather and leverages the lovely garden views.
And...
Fresh St Joseph’s lilies add the most wonderful fragrance throughout. (FM)
