We have always loved Bistro1682 and the setting will always get it 5 stars, however our experience last weekend was definately not one to remember. We couldn't help wondering if all staff were tired or whether the kitchen can't maintain it's quality levels anymore. There were 4 of us and we ordered 3 starters between us; Steak Tartare, Patagonian Calamari and Panko Crusted Cheese Fritter, all were good, but not special. The problems arrived with the main courses - i wanted the risotto, which has been delicious and a bit of a staple for me when all else fails - however on this occasion I was horrified to discover that It was pre made with Truffle Oil included. I do not believe that a kitchen with the reputation of Bistrot 1682 should be unable to make a risotto without something as "divisive" as truffle oil, when asked. I ended up with a starter portion of scotch eggs, which were not very well made. The other mains ordered were the beef fillet, sustainable fish of the day and the pork belly - the fillet was not cooked as requested and the other 2 dishes were just ok. I hope this was just a bad day in the kitchen and not a reflection of this beautiful restaurant dropping its game.
