I am not sure what happened but probably the most unromantic valetines evening I have had.From the shocking service (receiving the amuse bousch after your starters, waitors walking around with plates of food asking patrons if it was theirs; the manager asking patrons what course they were on etc), to the tiny portion of a main course; the whole evening was a disaster. At least one couple walked out after not being served anything in 1.5 hours. I am not sure how a restaurant, with such good reviews previously, gets it so wrong. There were at most 35 people, the restuarant knew the numbers as you had to pre-book. The first three courses were cold and could have been prepared in advance, although this seemed not to matter at all as another table nearby received a palate cleanser before their starters.At R280 a head for the evening, ex drinks and tip, I feel like I have been conned. I will not be going back to Ashtons in a hurry, if ever.
