ALERT: DISCOVERY OF A DINOSAUR EGG
Today I have discovered a dinosaur egg! Where you might want to know? Answer: At the Oude Bank Bakkerij - described on the well worn menu as "scotched"egg with "smoked trout"
I do so agree with Karen, Liv and Anita's reviews here. I have been visiting De Oude Bank Bakkerij on and off from the early days, (also before the big add-on space and renovations) , always with the hope that I will be pleasantly surprised by some change in either attitude of waiters or dishes.
Service has been consistently bad since way back up to now. To get a waiter's attention is quite a feat . It is a bit like waiting in a queue in the Post Office. They are oblivious of your presence.
Their cappuccino is good but you could use the "scotched"egg with "smoked trout" as a canon ball. It is served in a deep sort of porridge bowl, with three VERY hard toasted pieces of bread (attempt at crostini?) peeping out. I requested a flat plate to transfer the ball onto, so that I could tackle the ball on a flat surface. I did then manage to crack it open to uncover a poached egg with a slight bit of shredded trout? stuck to the hard crumbs. Would love to attach a photo of the dish though. A picture is worth a thousand words.
I did complain to the supervisor and she kindly put through a discount of R20 for the dish that cost R55. I was told that it is one of their favourite dishes. Well I'll be damned. I rest my case.
