Fresh at Paul Cluver Wine Estate

Fresh is definitely one of those unique Elgin gems that makes for sublime and (often) boozy lunches under the trees. While the space is equipped so that you can be seated inside or out, it is really delightful to sit outside. The Niki - the proprietor and chef - is hands on and it reflects on the service, which is consistently good. The menu is testament to the name - all the ingredients are 'fresh' and the menu changes according the chef's mood. This makes for inspired dining as nothing on the menu is too fussy and simple meals are done very well with an emphasis on quality of ingredients and subtle flair.

We had an outstanding lunch at Fresh on a Sunday afternoon and it was well worth the drive out from Cape Town. As an avid fan of the Elgin region, I would say that Fresh is well worth the quiet hype it's creating.

Try the pie! Any pie if they have it. It's well worth it.
