What a terrible experience. Took a client there to savour some typically South African food. 2 guests ordered the chicken schnitzel, not easy to get wrong, right? WRONG!!! Placed our orders, I ordered waterblommetjie bredie hoping to be able to chow down on one of favourite Boland specialities. I should have known better, haven't seen waterblommetjies being sold anywhere yet, not along the roadside or even at a supermarket. I did ask whether they were in season, the waiter advised that they were. Not even 10 minutes later our food arrived. The schnitzels were a dark grey-brown, the chips looked wilted. Our guests started eating and realised that the schnitzels were cold in the middle. They must have been precooked and left under the warming lights, same with the chips. My bredie (R 185.00) was a mushy grey colour with no sight of a waterblommetjie anywhere, so unappetising. But, we started to eat as we were on a tight schedule to get to the airport. One of our guests sent the schnitzel back, not 5 minutes later another one appeared, equally as awful. Then a tour group came in, sat down and ordered from the set menu. I cringed at the thought that these visitors were being "treated" to one of the worst meals in town! What a rip-off, and how sad that this is the impression they get of the way we South Africans eat! NO, NO, NO! this is wrong. Even worse is that they had a poster up outside the restaurant proclaiming very proudly that they were the recipient of the "Best South African eatery in the world 2017". That should have been the first warning sign, should never have eaten there!
