What a fantastic experience! Incredible hospitality slap bang in the center of Montagu, just a stones throw from the church. A beautiful vintage hotel that whisks you away to a more romantic era. Owners Bernhard and Fida Hess have gone out of their way to make this one of the most memorable dining experiences we have had in a very long time. The restaurant is intimate and it does not take long to strike up conversations with the other guests. On the eve we dined there, there were guests from England, France, Holland, Germany and Scotland - word must have gotten around :-) We opted for the 4 course meal with wine, which is a steal compared to similar establishments in Stellenbosch and Cape Town. The wines were matched beautifully and I would drive all the way from Cape Town to Montagu for the quail breast alone. All the courses were perfectly timed and for me the size of the dishes were spot on - enough to make you feel sated but not stuffed at the end of the meal. The menu changes regularly, our was a smoked salmon salad, followed by quail, sirloin and a decadent chocolate dessert. Each dish was perfectly seasoned and prepared with the finest ingredients. Highly recommended
