The Butcher Shop and Grill (Mouille Point)

I took my grandparents, aunt and cousin to the Mouille Point branch last night to celebrate their arrival for a holiday in Cape Town. Being big fans of the Sandton branch we were looking forward to a great meal. I have to say, however, that it was poor. The wine list, while extensive, is extremely expensive and we ended up selecting the house red which at R170 was horribly over priced for the quality. Despite all having chosen meat of some kind - since the Butcher Shop prides themselves on "knowing our meat" - the food was over-cooked, over-sauced and bland. To pay R150 for 2 pork chops that I could have cooked better in my own oven at home, and to be charged extra for swapping out chips for uninspired (half cooked) vegetables was, needless to say, extremely grudging. While the waiter was attentive, we had to re-order drinks twice as well as to wait over 10 minutes to receive our bill. I was very excited when I saw that the Butcher Shop had arrived in Mouille Point, but the honest truth is I will not be going back and our experience last night was enough to taint an otherwise long patronage with the brand in Johannesburg.
