The Eyrie

Trying to find a “sundowner spot” in the Westrand is quite a challenge especially one with a beautiful view and I usually drive off to Fairview golf course but now that I know about the Eyrie my GPS only know this stop. The Eyrie can be found at the Eagle Canyon Golf estate, and it is massive. There is a bit of identity proving at the entrance and after that you drive to the club house and the Eyrie can be found adjacent to it. The décor is warm yet modern; it has ample inside and outdoor seating. A warm fireplace roars inside and theres even beautiful burning fires outdoors to warm up the smokers. The waiters, management and all staff are warm and friendly. I noticed specials of the day on the boards and the prices looked great and there were quite a few yummy options. Pre-starter – mezze board – crispy calamari tubes and heads, mini pitas, halloumi, chicken livers in spicy sauce, hummus My comments – DELICIOUS. The calamari was perfectly done and the calamari still retained its size and plumpiness even though deep fried. Halloumi was filled with lemon buttery flavor and the chicken livers packed with flavor. Starter – My choice the crispy thai noddle duck salad. My comments – crispy, saucy, various Asian flavours packed in one mouthful, fresh crunchy veggies and succulent duck and the crispy noodles was an amazing combo Main –i had the pichana steak with baby marrow. My comments – I asked for medium rare and it arrived perfectly done, but it lacked flavor. I added salt to my veggies the béarnaise and the steak but it cried for more. The onion rings and the bone marrow were really great. Dessert – I had the dulce caramel and chocolate ganache tart My comments – absolutely delicious and the passion fruit gel was the absolute best it was cool fruity and not too sweet. Please add more of it. Overall experience – the staff are warm, the food is delicious and plentiful, the views amazing and the service outstanding. The food is not ordinary and the plating is remarkable. The chef has a good eye for detail and for combining different flavours. I will definitely be back here for a sundowner or ten
