The Restaurant at Newton Johnson

I made a reservation for 2 at Newton Johnson Restaurant for Friday evening, 27 March. My wife and I were planning one night away in Hermanus, to return to Cape Town on Saturday afternoon. On Friday morning NJ Restaurant called to say that they only had 2 table bookings for Friday evening and would like to close the restaurant for that evening, and would we mind moving our reservation to Saturday evening. I said that we were not going to be in Hermanus on Saturday evening and then decided that I would rather cancel than going to dinner at a restaurant which prefers to close on a Friday evening because it doesn't look like it will be busy enough. Despite the caller from NJ Restaurant saying that I shouldn't feel forced to cancel and they really didn't mind if we kept our reservation, it left a bad taste with me and I was not looking forward to being served by a bunch of unhappy people who had to work because I was not prepared to cancel my dinner. In my view, it is not acceptable for a top rated restaurant to treat prospective customers like this.
