I had the pleasure of dining at the The Shop on Wednesday evening. I wish that I had skipped lunch because everything (and i mean EVERYTHING) at The Shop is amazing. We had an early dinner and from when we walked in, we were met with the most amazing aromas from the kitchen. Gabi and Kyle welcomed us so graciously, and we were suprised with little espresso cups of mussel soup - we had an argument at the dinner table as to the contents of the soup because it was so rich and decadent, and were suprised to find it had no butter or cream in - just the most intense and incredible flavours of the sea. For main course we opted for the petite fillet for my colleague (cooked to absolute perfection) and I had the slow roasted lamb, and boy, was it impressive. I come from the Karoo, a descendant of lamb meat farmers, and I know a good piece of lamb when i see it but this one knocked my socks off. A solid, decent, more than enough portion, with the most incredible jus and mash. Dessert was creme brulee and again - wow. Creme brulee is the one thing i refuse to pass on in a restaurant, so i have had my fair share of creme brulees, good and bad, and this one has to rank in the top three. We were alone in the whole restaurant for our whole dinner, so it was empty but the music selection was great, the service from our waiter was honestly without fault and we felt like we were being waited on hand and foot without being made to feel that the service was overbearing. I cannot recommend them high enough. Thank you Kyle & Gabi!
