The Vine Bistro at Glenelly

Literally on the outskirts of Stellenbosch on the Ida's Valley Road, we at last had the opportunity of visiting the absolutely beautiful French owned wine estate 'Glenelly'. This has to be the find of the year for us. Lunch at 'The Vine Bistro' there - like everything else that has has been created is a stylish venue, with beautiful views, excellent service, and a delicious seasonal and changing menu. Created by chef Christophe Dehosse, remembered for his restaurant in Stellenbosch and in recent times, at Joostenberg. He was there as friendly and welcoming as ever, our food was sublime (as expected, the pork dishes were exceptional), and the most beautiful and satisfying desserts, with wines from the estate. Added to this, reflecting quality and class, the Tasting Room is a cut above those at many other well known estates, and for those not interested only in wine, the unique Glass Museum. Glenelly's owner has a wonderfully curated collection of international and local pieces, professionally displayed where we were greeted by a knowledgeable and welcoming curator. It really is all a revelation, and interesting to see how many obviously 'return' local Cape residents were dining there, not a 'coach in sight' out in the car park. We are just sorry it took us so long to go to this very special property, so conveniently situated.
