The Eat Out Woolworths Sustainability Award

The Eat Out Woolworths Sustainability Award seeks to honour the restaurants that understand their responsibility in providing sustainable alternatives that are mindful of the health of the environment, human health and social justice, and understand the importance of supporting higher animal welfare standards in farming. The winner is announced at the Eat Out Mercedes-Benz Restaurant Awards. Restaurants complete an entry form and are judged within three categories: Responsible sourcing, community impact and environmental impact. Read more about judging.

In 2016, we announced the first-ever winner, The Table at De Meye in Stellenbosch and in 2017, Camphors at Vergelegen took home the honours, followed by 2018 winner The Werf Restaurant at Boschendal. The 2019 winner will be announced in November.

Eat Out works with several partners to develop robust criteria, covering all aspects of the business, including responsible sourcing, responsible farming, ethical treatment and slaughter of animals, fair labour practices, community impact and energy, water and waste management. The judges include Pavitray Pillay of WWF-SASSI, Sonia Mountford of Eategrity and Karen Welter of Longtable Project.
