Chef and owner John Burger offers a smallish menu rich in imagination and quality. He ages the steaks himself, and cuts and trims each on order. Desserts like panna cotta with burnt orange zest further reflect creativity.
Flava stocks from the Meridian stable, including Zewenwacht as its house wine. PE attorney and winemaker Michael White’s Highlands Road label from Elgin Valley adds a local touch.
Service is relaxed, with pleasant camaraderie between staff. The open-plan design usually means a personal welcome from John, or he’ll swing by your table to check on your meal.
The vibe spills over from Stanley Street, PE’s buzzing restaurant strip, just around the corner. The atmosphere is laid-back and the design modern and slightly edgy.
You’ll struggle to find a better burger than John’s, which is hand-made from rump steak he minces himself. (LL, October 2012)
