Food
Chef Adrian Cook brings a Cape feel to bistro classics. The seafood platter’s Patagonian baby calamari ‘nationale’ and West Coast oysters are in love with the region’s signature sauvignon blanc. While popular with ladies-that-lunch, the 500g T-bone steak makes it a go-to place for hungry farmers and not-so-busy business lunchers. City slickers driving out for the farm breakfast often make a day of it and stay on for Sunday buffet.

Wine
Cellar door prices for Bloemendal wines (also available per glass). Good selection from Durbanville and surrounds.

Service
Bright and breezy.

Ambience
The mood is modern Provençal with whitewashed furniture and a plush lounge for leisurely sipping coffee and eating pretty cakes. It’s an alfresco paradise with old farm buildings, poplars and lily pond painting the pastoral scene.

And...
The Petite Amis menu and organic baby food are a lovely touch, and so are the happy kids out romping, swinging and sliding. (EduT, October 2012)

  • After the first disappointing experience at Bon Amis, where we waited 15min to be served by a waiter so we ended up leaving, I never wanted to return. Unfortunately, I had to attend a function there again last week. So so so so unprofessional, zero service and disappointing food. We deliberately placed a food order when we arrived, but after two hours the food had not arrived. The manager came over with such a bad attitude and was mopping how he is sorry but the chef made a mistake. Like really! What do you get paid to do? Definitely not managing staff. Then he wanted us to wait another 20min for our order. Come on! To make things worse we waited another 10min for the bill after chasing and shouting at the waiter and manager. I will never return or recommend Bon Amis. It is quite sad since the restuarant is beatiful and I am sure the owner does not even know the extent of the chaos.

  • Not at all impressed with Bon Amis Cafe & Deli Bloemendal Wine Estate. The Waitress, although firendly, failed to take note of guests seeking her attention. We were poorly attended to. To make matters worse, when the food was ready, there was no communication from the waitress to the staff who brought our food regarding who was eating what. I noticed this happening at many of the tables. Food was carried out and then staff were asking at each table if the food was theirs and if so who ordered what! APPALLING! A glass was broken at our table by my seat. There were lots of children playing around there (some barefoot) and no attempt was made to sweep up the smaller shards. The restaurant was full beyond comfortable capacity which resulted in it being very noisy...live music was also playing. With regard to the food and menu...Average. My fiance and I ordered a chicken dish and the chicken was bone dry. It is not the first time that Bon Amis has left me feeling cheated of a good experience, it is however the LAST.

  • The buffet today was very disappointing. The chicken casserole was so incredibly dry and bland I could not eat it. The beef with spaghetti again was ridiculously dry - could not get it down without a glug of water. The spread was very poor and not much selection either. Service was slow. Not much going for this place except the venue. Will definitely not return for the buffet. It is not cheap either. Reminds me a lot of hostel food (in fact hostel food was better).

  • The Sunday buffet was seriously disappointing. The food was very average. In most cases dishes weren't replaced or topped up, and when we complained the waiter simply shrugged and said that "we got the skinny chef. The fat chef is much better...". At R185 a head, with a buffet menu that is not extensive by any means, the very least you expect is for dishes to be topped up timeously. The venue has a lot going for it in terms of decor, ambience, parking and kids area, but the food turned me right off and I won't return unless it's only for a drink or coffee.

  • The venue is stunning and the service is fast , friendly and efficient but the food was such a disappointment. I had the biltong and truffel pap cakes - bland bland bland! My friend had the croissants - one piece of ham cut in half for each croissant, really!! I might go back for coffee but will never eat there again.
