Owner's description

Blending old and new with its red bricks, mosaic detail, Vespa scooters and two giant wood-fired ovens, Capeesh? has become the place in Pretoria to go for a contemporary take on Italian cuisine. With extensive outside seating and a cosy wine cellar packed with drinkable wines, Capeesh? is sure to become part of your vocabulary. The restaurant features a well ventilated smoking section, a private cellar for functions for up to 12 people, extensive outside seating on different levels, and live music on Sunday afternoons. South African and Italian wines are available by the glass. The signature dish is the pappardelle all`olio di tartufo: freshly made pappardelle pasta with seasonal vegetables, a drizzle of truffle oil, served in a Parma ham wrap.

Went for Sunday lunch, huge disappointment. Place smelled of old smoke, wasn't very clean, waiters unattentive and the food very unappetizing. I had the sole....smothered with unseasoned sauce to hide the blandness of the fish. And boiled veg which was so unappetizing served with cold couscous. My husband had the Veal....even worse, smothered with butter sauce also to hide the fact that it seemed they cooked it last night and just heated it up or something. His veggies were even worse... We had 4 appletizers....bill was more than R400 for 2 drinks each and 1 main each. We shared the baked eggplant for a starter....that was the only highlight of the meal. This was not out first time at Capeesh? But definitely our last. It seems you overlook allot if you go at night. Then the wine and ambience helps at least to not notice the bad food and outdated decor. There are allot of cleaner, updated and tastier places these days in Pretoria.
Great service and food. Plenty of seating catering for the smoking and non smoking and a great open air area for the more warmer nights. Will always return for their amazing snails and fabulous wine selection.
Old Year's Night 2014 at Capeesh? was great. The ambience was welcoming and the food was good. The wine menu is very affordable. As we had requested a non-smoking table we were placed in the side room where a birthday party was in full swing. We asked to be moved and our request was immediately agreed to. We sat near the very well equipped bar and were surrounded by streamers and balloons which created a great party atmosphere. Hats off to Capeesh? for not increasing their menu prices for this occasion. We shall return. Chris & Diedre de Muelenere

Ate the masala veal on 6 September 2012. Very impressed!
