I absolutely loved Chinchilla before I received the worst service ever! I loved the scenery, drinks and music. However, based on my previous experience I am definitely not going back there. Before this awful experience, I wanted to celebrate my birthday there. So, I reserved an area for 17 people and pre-ordered drinks. When we got there, I informed the waiter that I ordered drinks and that he could bring it out when it was ready. He was very surprised to hear this, but said he will sort it out. He then came back to get our food orders, only to be told that only one dish that we ordered was available as they were out of mussels, prawns, mint leaves etc. I was shocked, because they knew that they were getting a big table and there were a few other big groups that had reserved tables as well. So why wouldn't they preempt running out of ingredients? I also couldn't understand how they could run out of mint leaves when I pre-ordered mojitos, which is packed with mint leaves. Although we were all very frustrated, we all settled for alternatives options. We then received our drinks with MINT LEAVES, which I assumed were bought at a nearby store. BUT!!! Our food arrives with no serviettes; no space to eat, because our empty glasses weren't cleared and then we realised that a bowl of pasta with MUSSELS and PRAWNS arrived at our table. When we were specifically told that we could not to order that dish. We of course called the waiter to question why there was suddenly mussels and prawns, only to be told that the dish was not supposed to be at the table. He then grabs the dish and provides no further explanation. We called the manager to find out what was going on and he couldn't explain why other tables got MUSSELS and PRAWNS and we were told there was none. The manager brought out complimentary drinks for the inconvenience, but we were all still very unhappy with the service thus far. After having to ask the waiter to clear our dishes, I decided to order some drinks at the bar. What a big mistake I made! I had to ask the bartenders several times If I could pay for the drinks, because the guy that poured the drinks just walked away without charging me. Eventually when I got so annoyed by having to wait for the bartender, I walked away and got called back by the other bartenders. At this point I was not willing to wait any longer for the bartender that assisted me, so I said that I would wait for him at my table. Only to have the other bartenders run into the room next to the bar to pull him out, as if I was trying to avoid paying. With everything that happened so far, we decided to wrap up the bill. BUT!!! When the bill arrived, we were charged double the price on the pre-ordered drinks. Spoke to the manager, who confirmed that he would correct it and after 30 minutes of waiting we received the updated bill. Finally, we could leave this place that ruined my birthday. BUT NO!!! After re-looking at the bill, we realised that the amount did not change by much. Yes, the bill was updated but I knew that we were overcharged by over R1000 and the bill didn't change by much.. We then had to go back to the manager to explain that the bill was not updated accurately and eventually got the correct bill. I honestly would never go back to Chinchilla, especially after the terrible experience I had on my birthday. I realised that the waiters are very unprofessional and that this place is not able to handle big groups. This is very disappointing, because I would never recommend Chinchilla to any of my clients looking for function venues and it gives The Kove Collection a bad reputation.
