Owner's description

The authentic, Portuguese flavour carries through from the decor to the dishes. With an outside terrace open throughout the year, blazing fires keep the cold at bay in winter, and live entertainment will maintain the festive atmosphere in the summer nights. The vast menu specializes in Portuguese, Italian and Mediterranean cuisine, from slow-roasted and deliciously herbed lamb shank to prawns nationale, and the generously topped pizzas fired in the wood-burning oven have been famous for years.

    I have been going to Ciros since they were based in Brixton many many years ago. (Late '80s) Restaurants don't stay around this long for no reason. Umberto, the owner, is hands-on - checking staff and meals being served and knows how to interact with clients in just the right way; not too casual and not too formal. They will accommodate requests for any changes to the meal on the menu. Their staff have been with them for many years. An old favourite which I don't hesitate to take friends to.

    Still the best Pizza in a 200km radius from where I live, and on occasion we will drive the distance for good pizza. It is a great place for family, friends and office lunches, because the menu is varied and the food is always good. The Italian salad is crisp and fresh, steak is great, the gnocchi is unbeatable, and everyone always enjoy their meal. It is easy to find and parking is plenty. Over more than 15 years of eating at Ciro's and now Ciro's Umberto, the restaurant staff have grown dear to us, and it is easy to book a large table and celebrate almost any occasion.

    A really disappointing experience. While the food was good the service was shockingly poor. We had a booking on Friday the 7th to celebrate my dad's 60th. Not only was our drinks order taken down incorrectly but we ended up having to take our own orders down for the main meal - for which the owner happily provided us with the paper when we complained instead of ensuring our order was taken by the two waiters assigned to the table! After this they still got one order wrong. While the food was of good quality I would not go back given the shocking service.

    We had a really great meal at Ciro's last night. A very relaxed atmosphere with a large outside area, good service and fantastic food. A definite good value for money restaurant.
