Food
Talented young chef Edward Serfontein, who worked at Café Nood and Burrata, serves food that doesn’t rely on frills to make its impact. This is high-flavour country with delicious combinations that are making this a great addition to the Vredehoek scene.

The small plates concept is an excellent idea, falling neatly between tapas and starter portions – just enough to get those tastebuds going. Fabulous plump mussels done with garlic and white wine, plenty of cream and bacon are irresistible, as is the dish of baby calamari with a hint of chili and lemon mayo. Then there are the arancini, deep-fried risotto balls filled with mozzarella and served with harissa mayo, and the pièce de résistance, rich chicken livers with mushrooms, brandy and cream served with crunchy ciabatta.

The burgers are bringing devotees down the mountain, arriving in generous portions on a buttered garlic bun. Plus there are excellent steaks, ostrich or beef, and skinny pizzas, if you’re still hungy. A great way to finish is with the strawberry cheesecake ice cream all crunched up in a glass – a childhood dream come true.

Drinks
An adequate list that’s well-priced, with house wines from Vondeling. Fabulous cocktails.

Service
Swift and friendly, with owner Vanessa Rose, a well-known Cape Town foodie, usually there keeping an eye on things.

Ambience
This friendly, small place is much loved by the families in the area and the young professionals who live there. It’s very comfortable and unintimidating, like a home away from home, where someone else does all the work.

And…
Look out for specials, like half-price cocktails on Fridays from 5pm to 7pm, which is a great way to start the weekend.

  • I couldn't agree more about this fantastic bistro! I have moments almost weekly where the craving for Con Brio Bistor's food arises. We drive from Claremont weekly to visit one of our firm favourites! The food is always delicious we have never had a bad experience to date! Well done to Vanessa and her Team.

  • The Burgers! I don't think I've had a more delicious burger in Cape Town. Easily better than Royale Eatery or Hudsons. You can tell a lot of care has gone into the preparation of these meals between buns. The side toppings provided ar both unique and delicios. The Tuesday 2 for 1 Burger deal seals the deal, get these mouth watering taste temptresses for the price of a Spur Burger! Service is also great, super great in fact, they gave us free beer while we were waiting for our to-go pizza to finish baking :)

  • The best kept secret in Cape Town. I've had the pleasure of eating at Con Brio three times. The food is consistently delicious that I have pretty much ordered the same items each time (pork neck and phyllo parcel small plates are amazing and well priced) the desserts are incredible (doughnuts with white chocolate cream - wow), even the cocktails are excellent. On top of this there is such incredible attention to detail and friendly service, they deserve to be bustling.

  • We had the most fantastic meal at Con Brio a few weekends ago. We started with their half priced cocktails (winner!) and the started with the wines. They serve delicious wines by the glass with very generous portions for the price. The chef personally recommended his favourite dishes and we chose all of them. The mussels are simply delicious, the deep fried gnocchi melts in your mouth once you bite past the crush (the sausage sauce was also great) and another hit was the pork neck/belly. All in all we had 8 different dishes including a pizza and a few drinks each and the bill was very reasonable. Fantastic find! Will be back.

  • Having eaten at Con Brio several times since its opening, I thought that it was the perfect venue to have a business lunch at. Not knowing everyone's preference for food, the diversity of the menu allows you to order from 'tapas' type options as well as main courses. Loved the mussels, now one of my favourites on the menu after the baby squid salad. If you haven't yet tried this quaint eatery, you must.

  • We were delighted at finding this little bistro owned and managed by experienced Vanessa Rose with Chef Edward Serfontein who we know from 'Nood' and 'Burrata' serving up a delicious menu, with a good wine list and all very affordable, A great addition to Deer Park Drive's venues, we look forward to going back for their Sunday Brunch.
