Critic's review

Food
Some of the skinniest pizzas in town – all 22 of them – include exotic brie and cranberry; smoked salmon, cream cheese and capers; or the lavish shrimp and seafood version. Pastas include great lasagne, generous helpings of good old fashioned meatballs and spaghetti, and other yummy options like chicken livers or mushrooms. Finish with excellent apple pie or a retro banana split with ice-cream or cream.

Wine
A small variety, but it’s very well priced. Corkage is only R20 for wines they don’t have.

Service
Friendly and professional.

Ambience
You’ll be nice and comfortable in this unintimidating space. It’s a neighbourhood pub/restaurant right on Buitenkant Street with outside seating. Movie star portraits – old and new – line the walls, but the pizza oven is the star of the show.

And...
Gluten- and wheat-free options are available at a small extra charge. (GL, September 2011)

  • Found a baby cockroach in my coffee of which staff laughed and owner did not make an effort to compensate and tried to make light of the circumstance. Shocking!

  • Decent if unspectacular food, woeful service. Kept getting drinks wrong. Two chairs broke when we sat down - the staff laughed.

  • Have eaten all over a large part of the world in both expensive and more reasonable restaurants. Can honestly say that these pizzas easily rate amongst the best I have tasted. That is before I have even started on the pleasent service and relaxed atmosphere. Oh yes and even the prices were great. Keep it up Jos and team.

  • The setting and food was great! I thought the meat pizza had WAY too much meat... overload the system (brilliant value for money!) but the biltong, feta and caramalised onion was absolutely divine... well done chef! The restaurant wasnt too loud so you could have good conversation. Id defiantely recommend Divas, although the name has changed to baboo. Service needs a lot of work although the waiter was friendly.
