Owner's description

The Fig Tree restaurant is situated in Simbithi Country Club, nestled between the coastal suburbs of Ballito and Salt Rock, surrounded by the undulating sugarcane fields characteristic of the KwaZulu-Natal countryside. The restaurant offers stunning views of the golf course, specifically the 18th hole, and is the ideal eatery for guests to relax and enjoy good, fresh food and locally sourced wine.

This is a golf club restaurant, with all the informality, and sweeping fairway views this implies, but also a sophisticated standard of food and presentation. Excellent daily specials featuring local produce, a Sunday lunch carvery, a hugely popular and lavish curry buffet on Wednesdays (the chicken my favourite) with outstanding sambals and sides, live music Friday nights... I am addicted to the Banting Burger: served on a huge black mushroom, with bacon, avo, tomato, cheese, an exemplary meat patty, battered onion rings and, best of all, rustly frites. Very good bread with tapenade and pesto for nibbling until the main event shows up. Interesting wine list. On balmy nights you can sit outside. Our local.
A very pleasant evening with old Friends and awesome music from Paul Basel. Nothing was too much effort to accommodate us and ensure excellent service
We went as a table of four and enjoyed everything immensely: excellent, succulent food, great and friendly service, enjoyable atmosphere and a great overall experience all round.

I am so let down by our experience at the Fig Tree this evening. We went to the popular curry buffet only for my husband to literally spit out the fish it was so rotten. How can a restaurant of this calibre put out so obviously rotten food.
