A hidden gem in Kingfisher - this is a restaurant for the evenings. We go at least once every 2 months and absolutely love it! If you book a table, ask to sit inside. The decor is just soo quirky, cosy and fabulous. Every time we've been there, other tables were filled. I don't find the prices too expensive, because their portions are big. Their mussel starter - either the garlic sauce or the tomato sauce - to die for! We normally share the mussels as a starter and we love the little 'vetkoek' triangles it's served with. The seafood chowder is chunky, rich and decadent. My hubby always choose the Orange Duck. Half a duck, baked crispy in the pizza oven, served with little orange peel preserves and a yummy sauce. I normally try different dishes - I'm quite adventurous so normally try something like a pigeon stew, etc. If you like prawns - order their Half Pint Prawns. A Half pint beer glass, filled with prawns and sauce. The glass keeps the prawns hot enough till the very last one. And they serve it with matchstick chippies - yummy! DESSERT - The Rhubarb Apple Crumble!!!!! It is soo good!!! I always, always order it - a balance of sweet, tart and crunchy. Their wine list is quite impressive.
Funtastico – Fourways is a little gem and probably the most unassuming restaurant I’ve ever stepped foot in. (Not the decor I might add)

What a find! I’m still getting over the wow factor of this establishment and we went 2 weeks ago. Now that’s saying something surely.

The owner of Funtastico really does know what he’s doing. Even making a reservation was a pleasurable affair. We were greeted by the owner/chef patron on arrived and from there were taken care of by his very friendly and capable staff.

We had booked a table of six and were placed at a beautifully laid table in the middle of the restaurant. Perfect spot to take in all the memorabilia that covered the walls and parts of the ceiling. It quite literally was a visual onslaught. But done very tastefully.

The menu offers a great variety to such an extent that choosing a dish became quite a task. But I settled on the prawn bisque to start, followed by the veal marsala. Both dishes were prepared to perfection. In fact not a bad thing could be said about a single meal around our table.

For dessert I opted for the Italian kisses. Purely because they reminded me of my childhood and no visit to our local steakhouse was complete without a portion of kisses. And they didn’t disappoint.

Funtastico is so well worth a visit. Their prices are very reasonable for the area and the service is on point. Look out for their attention to detail. Every dish is served and plated beautifully.

All in all a great experience. The food was simply delicious and the family was quiet. A rare moment…

    * I must just mention that if you’re going with young children be sure to take some form of entertainment along. *

On arrival the wife used a rude careless gesture to wave us to our table - we should have left right then in hindsight. We waited over an hour for a drink and of course no food was offered not even a crumb of bread and then the red wine was so bad I sent it back and it was not replaced with anything. After this time feeling hungry and thirsty and very ignored I went to complain and the wife gave me a filthy look and did nothing. By this time the restaurant had emptied, why anyone even come to the restaurant for this abuse is beyond me. A geriatric confused waiter then offered us dessert even though we had not yet ordered our food. The food when it arrived was not worth the wait - the blue cheese salad tasted like hot soap-suds and the chicken livers were overcooked bad-tasting chunks. The duck arrived at R160 or so - I expected something special but it was awful and the pizza was one of the worst ever. The owner then decided to challenge me as to why I did not like his wine and said his glass wine was for the plebs that came to his restaurant and that I should order a bottle which was not suitable as I only wanted a nice glass or two which I fully expected in a restaurant with quite high prices for a basic pizza pasta joint and at the prices they charge I doubt any plebs are his customers. We were astounded to be treated so badly and have actually never been treated like this before and the appaling food just added insult to injury. Do not even try this place unless you wish to be badly insulted by their behaviour and quality of food.

I echo previous reviews. I took an international guest to this place last night and the owner/manageress was an embarrassment to herself and to South Africa. She also told us to leave as they were busy. She behaved in an arrogant fashion and found it impossible to answer questions or be civil to us. I will never set foot in this place again and I suggest you go somewhere else to start with to save you the trouble of leaving.

Have visited this place before and had good food. Went last night and found the service appalling. The lady who served us was, I think, Dieters wife and she is the rudest person I have ever met. I will never set foot in this place again and will tell everyone I know.
