Food
Gibsons is part of the Slick restaurant group and is the sister restaurant to the well-known Belthazar. The eatery has gained great popularity for its excellently prepared gourmet burgers. There are a large variety of burgers to choose from, listed under three categories: Gourmet, Designer and Roll’s Royce. The burgers all have creative names with some of the most popular ones being The Governor (served with smokey BBQ sauce, cheddar and sweet mustard); The President (chutney, gruyère cheese and guacamole) and if that’s not enough, The Ultimate Mex Tex (cheddar, jalapeños, guacamole, nachos, salsa and cream cheese). Gibson’s also pride themselves on serving some of the best ribs in town and offer pork, beef and lamb versions. All are marinated in their smokey BBQ sauce and are as tasty as they are tender. There is also a selection of hot dogs to choose from. You can select a beef or pork option and then the toppings, which include the likes of caramalised onions and sauerkraut. For the sweet tooth, Gibson’s will not disappoint, offering desserts typical of what you’d expect at a burger bar. The options include sticky toffee pudding, New York cheesecake slab and a Bar One and Oreo Sundae, to name a few, but they are perhaps most best known for the double thick spun milkshakes of which there are numerous flavours and with what seems like endless toppings. The peanut butter and crunchie combination is an absolute winner.

Drinks
Soft drinks, cocktails and craft beers are all available to accompany your meal. There is a limited wine list available with most of them labelled specifically for Gibson’s. But the wines are very well priced. There is also French champagne, as well as a local MCC.

Service
As tables turn quickly, the service is very efficient.

Ambience
The establishment isn’t very big and, being busy at all times, it can sometimes feel a bit cramped. That said, it is perfectly suited to hosting a burger bar and the food certainly makes up for what it lacks in ambience.

And…
If you plan on making Gibson’s a regular spot, join their loyalty card programme, which offers 10% cash back on the total of your bill. This can then be accumulated over a period of time to spend at any of their restaurants.

  • My wife & I decided to go to the V&A last night. So many restaurants to choose from, but eventually came across "Gibson's Gourmet Burgers". The name says it all, "Gourmet" from the start to the end....... we were greeted by the hostess who was very friendly and directed us to the perfect table. All the staff are friendly. We chose the onion blossom as a starter, which was "AMAZING". For our mains, my wife had the Lamb Ribs with a side of sweet potato chips, it was so great she didn't even share it. I had the Governor Burger, cooked to perfection. All washed down with 1 of the 100+ designer milkshakes that they have on the menu. The staff are efficient, friendly and quite knowledgeable regarding their menu. Later decided to take 1 home because I couldn't have enough of it. Unfortunately we couldn't have dessert as the portions are quite big and worth paying for. Next time we'll start with the baked cheese cake. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED to all in Cape Townians........

  • Unimpressive food supported by lackluster service. The sauce on my burger seemed to have no measurement or ratio to it -- simply enough to make it look a mess. Tasting the guacamole topping splattered onto my plate revealed a forkful of ice -- definitely not freshly made. The chips were few and under-seasoned in addition to being barely lukewarm on arrival. The sauces on the table are frankly inedible -- don't be fooled by their Spur-like appearance. This is definitely a milkshake spot (they have a massive range and the milkshakes themselves are massive, earning their price tag), but best gone to with a company you don't intend on speaking to -- the place is incredibly loud. Expect kids to bump into your table many times and to wait for service. Best for milkshakes as dessert after dinner at a better establishment.
