Tired room and kitchen in sore need of a refit. Use of fine dining description is a farce. The management need to stop the pretence. Limp calamari, lukewarm main course, paired wines served at the end of each course. Lots of staff but no management. English restaurant c.1960. This is 2016 - get a grip!
Very disappointed - we made a reservation 2 weeks ago as it was my mother's birthday. Ginger lost the reservation. We arrived with our taste buds looking forward to some good good such as duck. But were told that there would Be no fish or méat served as there extractor not working. There was no call to inform us. We ate what was available did to time constraint, however when we later wanted to order dessert at 9:20pm we were told the kitchen was closed, however no one had asked us to place our dessert orders. Very disappointing evening and staff blasée.
After hearing about Ginger being one of the Eastern Cape's top restaurants we decided to try it out while on a trip to PE. We decided at about 8:30PM to take a chance and go past to see if a table would be available. We thought we may miss out as we didn't make a reservation but went anyway. We were greeted at the door by someone who must've been the manage and we asked if they had a table available. He almost rolled his eyes (I was instantly put off). He then hesitated and told us in a very rude manner that he could try and seat us somewhere as if we were now a total inconvenience. There were plenty of open tables. He then told us to sit at the bar (where he didn't give us a drinks menu and no one served us). I eventually got up to ask for service. We got our drinks and were put at a table. We sat at the table for about 20 minutes. Not once did a waiter or waitress ask us if we were ready to order. They walked past us and blatantly ignored us. Eventually someone came to to take our order but at that point we felt so unwelcome and uncomfortable that we asked for the bill and left. I so looked forward to going to that restaurant but their rude manager who clearly lacks in people skills put us off totally. We received better service at a franchise around the corner than at a so-called "fine-dining" restaurant. Most disappointed, will not return.
With the sight and sound of the ocean just a few feet away, this makes for a great restaurant. The food is amazing, service always friendly and professional and the drink as cool as the summer breeze. Dining for lunch or treating someone special for dinner with an display of flames for a Crepes dessert, Ginger is the place to be in P.E.
I didn't like the deco and I also didn't like the food I felt it was pretentious unfriendly staff who don't know how to treat their customers terrible
