Owner's description

The Harvard Cafe is a totally unique venue that offers a wide variety of exiting possibilities. There is a shuttle service available from Mondays to Fridays from the Midrand Gautrain station to the Harvard Cafe on request. The restaurant is beautifully positioned very close to the runway and apron so patrons can admire the planes as they taxi to and from the runway only a stones throw away from their table. There is seating inside and outside with tables close to the runway. There is a childrens section where children can play on a jungle gym whilst their parents enjoy the experience at Harvard Café.The menu pays a hearty tribute to burgers, seafood, steaks and poultry – chefs specialities show a leaning towards Mediterranean style dishes, with Kleftiko, Trinchado and Souvlakia but it is the pizzas that will have you airborne, whether you choose a Harvard, Tiger Special or a Boeing.Lunch at the Harvard is a cheerfully rowdy affair with the light aircrafts taking off alongside the restaurant.

After ordering a medium rare steak which came well done, I returned the steak. The supervisor on duty who came to ask about the meal was extremely rude and said she would call the manager as the steak was perfectly done. The manager came and was equally rude to the extent that she told me to Google meat temperatures. When I requested that she not raise her voice and shout she said she was doing this in defense of their food. I have never received such rude, uncouth behaviour in a place where I should be a valued customer. I have frequented Harvard Cafe in the past but after being talked down to and berated merely for requesting the steak as I ordered it, I will not be returning. Harvard Cafe clearly does not value their customers
What a way to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon! Shaded under trees and umbrellas, water mist fogging up your glasses, small planes and helicopters circling around, frosted beer glass in hand, guy singing music from the 80's and the food ... the food! I had the Albatross pizza - a base smothered in garlic napolitana sauce with prawns. Out of this world!!! Although, the prawns were just a by-and-by. They were a bit overcooked and actually I preferred the pizza without them. It really was a very very good pizza. Hein had a pepper burger. Wow! The chips were just amazing and his burger dripped with melted cheese and pepper sauce!!!! Their buffet breakfast isn't 'la-di-da', but has a very good variety of good food! The decor inside is quirky, but I prefer the outside. Definitely a place to visit. They have specials the whole week, so go and check it out!
