Owner's description

Haute Cabrière has been part of the DNA of the South African wine lover since its inception, inspiring supporters to live and enjoy the art of life. Situated on the Franschhoek Pass, Haute Cabrière has been creating wines from Burgundian cultivars for the past 25 years. Founder and proprietor Achim von Arnim’s passion for these varietals has always been the inspiration behind both the Pierre Jourdan and Haute Cabrière wine ranges.

Today, second generation Cellar Master, Takuan von Arnim has continued this philosophy, while adding his personal stamp to the much-loved wines. Haute Cabrière offers visitors the perfect canvas to live beautifully.

Haute Cabrière’s menu is all about classically prepared dishes, with familiar flavours, by chef Nic van Wyk. The flavours and textures on the plate are specifically designed to complement the range of Haute Cabrière wines and Pierre Jourdan Méthode Cap Classiques – all of them served by the glass and by the bottle at cellar door prices.

The Marraige of food and wine... Don't waste money. The setting amazing, the pairing of food with wine, incipit. Rather go to Clos Malverne or La Colombé. Seriously disappointed. A dream that was better dreaming about, than experiencing.
Haute Cabrière in Franschoek is just a whole lot of Awesomeness! We recently celebrated my friends Birthday, we were not dissapoonted at all. Excellent service from the Waiter, always there when we needed him.The Sunday Feast Menu was delicious, from the Creamy Butternut Soup, to the roasted aubergine, the vanilla crème brûlée, and my Favourite, bottomless Pierre Jourdan Belle Rose. I have found my Favourite Restuarant in Franschoek.
We decided to visit this restaurant based on recommendation from friends. We were not disappointing! We were offered drinks on the terrace as we arrived, which was lovely to watch the last of the sunset. We were offered the option dining outside, but chose to move in. A lovely menu, as we were 4, each chose different options and shared a bit. Each dish was great in flavour and presentation, with special mention to the pork belly and Franschhoek trout dish! Nice to see that the wine list lists other wines, besides the estate wine, a nice touch when guest tastes vary so much. We happened to drink the estate MCC the whole night, and it worked with all the dishes. We will return, and recommend this restaurant to friends. Service was friendly and efficient.
A lovely dinner. Friendly faces when we arrived to be offered drinks outside to watch the sunset. Crisp cold MCC and they allowed us to order oysters as a pre-dinner course. (oyster option on the starters) 2-3 course menu options, enough choice. We had the veal with was superb, and another favourite was the tempura prawns. Lovely to see a old-school dessert like sago, been given a modern take. We didn't have space for dessert, but will certainly be back to try it.
After seeing a magazine snippet on the restaurant last year, we eventually managed to get round to booking. We arrived for dinner and were offered drinks outside to take in the sunset, and then moved in to the dining room. We were seated at a table overlooking wine barrels, and told it is where the pinot noir is matured. The menu offers something for everyone, we had the prawn starter and the goats' cheese, both pretty dishes, with the goats'cheese winning with its beets done three ways and also an interesting pasty that looked almost like angel hair- but golden brown. For mains we went with the linefish and the duck, we were both adamant that our dish was the winner, but after tasting each other's happy to concede that both were lovely. Happy as both dishes were recommended by our waitress! Wine by the glass on offer was from the the farm range, as well as the Pierre Jourdan range- I am a big fan of the Belle Rose. Other wines are also on offer- but only the by the bottle. We ended up not having space for dessert, but will certainly prepare better next time so we can taste those.
