Food
There are four burger joints that Joburgers rave about and Hudson’s is one of them. Of the wide range available, The Cheese can be highly recommended: a beef patty topped with tomato relish, onion marmalade and cheddar cheese, with their side disco fries, which come with more cheese. There are also plenty of extras to be added (as I did), like extra avo (which they recommend), extra cheese, extra bacon and extra mayo. This is burger heaven. A further order of cheese poppers on the side was equally delicious.

Fresh, juicy and using a great combination of flavours, they hit the spot for a hungry girl. Sadly, the disco fries were quite cold and the cheese was a bit stodgy, but I enjoyed the burger and poppers so much that I didn’t care.

Drinks
Of their cocktail list, the mojito is really great and refreshing. They also have craft beers on tap and thick milkshakes.

Service
Service can be a bit underwhelming.

Ambience
The decor is really understated, with strong wooden touches. There is a great atmosphere; equal parts relaxed and buzzing with the Parkhurst vibe. It’s a very vibrant spot. Tables outside allow you to make use of Jozi’s great weather.

And …
The menu begs further investigation, like some scrumptious looking chicken wings and ribs to try on your next visit. –

If you know anything about me, you’ll know I love a good juicy burger that's super saucy and has tons of cheese. There are four burger joints that Joburgers rave about and Hudson’s is one of them, so despite a lukewarm welcome, I was positive and excited to taste their trademark burger.

    Food
I ordered The Cheese, which is a beef patty topped with tomato relish, onion marmalade and cheddar cheese, with their side disco fries, which come with more cheese. Of course I had to have a few extras in my burger like I generally do… I asked for the extra avo (which they recommend), extra cheese, extra bacon and extra mayo, which I then discovered on the table. (That was a big plus for me; you can never have enough mayo!) I was in burger heaven at this point. I also ordered some cheese poppers as a side. Yes, I have a big appetite.

To be honest, I couldn't fault the burger or cheeses poppers – they were all absolutely delicious. Fresh, juicy and using a great combination of flavours, they hit the spot for a hungry girl. Sadly, the disco fries were quite cold and the cheese was a bit stodgy, but I enjoyed the burger and poppers so much that I didn’t care.

    Drinks
My mojito was really refreshing. They also have craft beers on tap and thick milkshakes.

    Service
What a pity the beautiful brunette waiter didn’t say, “Hello, my name is… and I'll be your waiter for today.” She just put the menus down and scuttled off to another table. Maybe I'm old-school like that – but it would have made me and my friend feel welcome. She came to check if we wanted anything else – which is what you’d expect – but a smile would have been the cherry on top. Yes, there’s a fine line between over-friendly and cold, but the people that get it right can bring warmth to a place – even if it's ‘just’ a burger joint.

    Ambience
The decor is really understated, with strong wooden touches. It’s easy to relax: you know you're at a burger joint and are about to have a great meal. Even in the afternoon, Hudson’s is a vibrant place. We had a table outside and it was nice to feel the whole Parkhurst vibe from where we were sitting.

    The verdict
I would recommend the food at Hudson’s to anyone. I can't wait to try their chicken wings and ribs next time I'm there!

  • Hudsons makes one if the best burgers in Joburg. Their Milkshakes are also unbelievable!! They have a great variety of options on the menu, there is something for everyone. Sometimes when it is busy the service isn't great. Overall it's a great place for lunch/dinner or drinks with some mates.

  • Hudson's Burger Joint has the most delicious burgers ever. They ooze flavor and sauces and have a wide variety of toppings, plus the sides are pretty banging too. Definitely try the Hudson on Chicken for a tangy and creamy filled burger.

  • Hudsons is by far the most exquisite burger joint I have ever been to, there is a wide selection of burgers with plenty of options how you would like it, even swapping out for different patties such as ostrich and even a choice of carb or wheat free buns. This is the best restuarant by far.

  • Hudsons in Parkhurst perfect for feel good food and a great customer experience. It is one of the few burger joints that cater to vegetarians with the option to swop a beef patty for a chicken or veg option. The waitresses are all friendly and eager to please the customers. The vibe is great with awesome rock music - especially on weekends and during happy hour. The food and selection of beers and should definitely be know as cocktails are extensive and delicious. Hudsons should definitely be known as one of the Best Everyday Eateries in the country!

  • I attended a Birthday lunch here yesterday afternoon. We were a table of 11. I was very impressed with the service. Our waitress was on the ball, friendly and efficient! The food was amazing! I had the burger sliders (3 mini burgers with different toppings) And i loved each one! I also ordered a side of onion rings, which was delicious. The cocktails were awesome and the Nutella milkshake a real winner. All in all, it was a stunning afternoon. Keep it up!

  • Popped in for a burger at 17:00. Stood around waiting to be seated like an idiot for 5 minutes till someone at the bar noticed me. Bartender greated me and was polite but I wasn't there to socialize and I still wasn't being helped. Worst of all, the place was mostly vacant and waitresses were just standing around day dreaming. Finally I asserted myself quite aggressively and was asked to sit in a booth indoors. I objected to that and insisted on outdoor seating - weather was nice outside and there was loads of space. Waitress/hostess wasn't enthusiastic about it since the tables were reserved. But they were reserved for 19:30 and It was now 17:10 so I had to give a little common sense and logic lesson before I was finally seated. The burger I ordered was delicious. It had bacon, cheese, onion rings and was served with sweet potato fries. I washed that down with some ice cold craft ale. I had fried Oreos for desert and they were amazing. My burger at Hudson's was better than anything I've had at Wolfpacks just up the road. My waitress was very young and was a sweetheart. That being said, the hostess was a bit sleepy, and the rest of the waitresses are floating around instead of paying attention to customers. I'd have to wave my arms around like an ape and twist and turn around to grab anyones attention for damn beer refill...and the place was pretty dead! Lucky I didn't pull in at rush hour or I might of slipped a disc or popped my shoulder. Haibo!

  • Have been to Hudsons twice. Can not fault the food but the owner deems it fit to play the music so load that you find yourself screaming your order to the waitress and can't have a conversation with dinner guests. When I complained and requested the music be turned down just a notch I was told the owner won't turn it down. I then requested to chat to the owner but I am still waiting! So if you want a good burger accompanied by bad service and bleeding ears this is the joint for you!

  • Having been to Hudsons in CT. I was amped to try Hudsons in Parktown JHB. However, 20 min into the stay, realised that they are worlds apart. The service is absolutely horrible. Not sure if Hudson's in JHB prides itself on hiring defunct members of society as waitresses, but this appeared to be the theme. Besides shoddy and arrogant service, waitresses are just impossibly useless and non existent when you need anything. On a food level, something needs to be done on ensuring the buns are fresh. The entire table had stale, dry and unappetizing buns. For a burger place, that is a FAIL.

  • Clearly service is everything. No matter how good the food is, it becomes unpleasant when waitresses do not actually want to help you. I'm sure we can all understand that it's not the most appealing job, but it is A job and it's THEIR job and it has to be done. Keep the good food coming, but please train your waitresses accordingly!

  • Great addition to the bustling street. Love the ambience, the menu options and the burgers were absolutely amazing. They could improve on the service. The waitress came to introduce herself after about 10mins of sitting down, then we had to wait for her to finish chatting with her colleagues, before she came to take our order. We asked for recommendations, and she rolled eys and said she'll come back when we are ready.

  • Nice ambiance and bustling "high-street" atmosphere. Can feel somewhat crowded at times and seating could be improved from a positioning and comfort perspective. The menu is comprehensive and limited to their niche; Food upon arrival is interesting - in a good way - and is easily comparable to most four star eaterys, in JHB, with the service to match.

  • I liked the bustling ambiance and the menu looked interesting, but all went to downhill from there. In the 2.5 hours we were there we managed to get 2 drinks! It took over 40 minutes to get a beer and this was after the dinner rush. The food was ice cold when it eventually arrived. If a restaurant is busy I'm happy to wait for my food, but cold food means you just dont care. I will not go back willingly.

  • You walk in and the atmosphere grabs you. Delightful, hip and trendy. and that's where it ends. After we were seated, we were invisible. Asked 2 waitresses for menu's, both said they would call our waitress. After 15 min the manager walked past, I asked him for menus and placed a drinks order at the same time. It took a further 35 min to bring a milkshake and beer. 50 min after we walked in the door. Not the greatest. Milkshake when it eventually arrived was huge and delicious. The menu choice is great and our burgers were really tasty. Ordered a side of chips which come with cheese and spring onions - These were beyond dreadful. Oily Slap chips gone wrong. Would not have been surprised if it was yesterdays left overs. Waitress was as rare as a black rhino. Pity about the service as I said, the burgers tasted really great.

  • We really wanted to like this burger joint. The concept is good, and the menu reads well - on paper at least. However, the reality is quite sad. The patties are overcooked and dry, the buns are stale and untoasted, and the chips are soggily swimming in an excess of chilli and sauce. The craft beer menu is long, but the beers they have in stock can be counted on one hand. The waitresses are nowhere to be seen when you need them, but manage to turn up with fake brightness and shouty voices when your mouth is full, just to squeeze between patrons and bump and shunt you all. All in all, a dreadful experience, and we won't be back. And with a wide selection on the Parkhurst strip, I doubt many others will be either.

  • Really wanted to love Hudson's - was very excited to hear they had opened a branch in Johannesburg but was so disappointed. Decor and set-up is great and the service was friendly but waited forever to order and receive our drinks and the food took almost an hour. All our burgers were well done(cremated) and completely bone dry so they were difficult to eat on top of a very dry roll and our chips were very soggy. Want to give them another chance but not sure if I want to take the risk.

  • Very disappointed in Hudson's food. The food was not even remotely as good as it is in Cape Town. I was so excited to hear that a Hudson's branch opened in JHB as I always make a point of going to Hudson's in Cape Town because of the outstanding Burgers. The tacos we ordered was either old, or not placed in the oven to crisp - it was very chewy and our chips was served cold and soggy. Please get a new baker for your burger buns - they spoil the taste of the burgers.
