Food
Rumps, fillets and rib-eyes… However you like your steaks, you will find former-butcher Joop Moll frying, flipping and flambéing the best cuts to perfection in the open-plan kitchen. Starters might include kudu carpaccio, Roquefort snails or mussels in a creamy garlic sauce, and desserts could take the form of crème brûlée and tipsy tart. It’s prime cuts that bring loyal customers back time and again. There are some fish and chicken options for those rare creatures who don’t like their meats red.

Wine
A competent steakhouse list with some good Bordeaux blends to match what’s on the plate.

Service
Joop’s wife, Wendy, is the ever-efficient front-of-house and drives the waitron brigade effortlessly.

Ambience
Hearty and homely, if somewhat retro.

And...
Don’t skimp on the fried onions on the side, made the old-fashioned way with no flour or batter in sight. (FC, October 2012)

  • this is the best of steaks i've ever eaten ever in the WORLD; ok im not paid to say this, but i live in Canada and go to that restaurant whenever i'm in Durban to enjoy that wonderfully prepared food we got there every time; i really enjoy the food, ambience, service and hospitality. I just wish everybody could go there and see, eat and enjoy what a really good restaurant should be like

  • This place was amazing. The appetizers were interesting, the wine list was deep with choices and the Dutch themed interior was cozy and nice. The service was excellent and the star of the evening - the steak. Obviously a labor of love and a product of over 20 years of insistant quality and flavour. Every kind I tried was mouth watering, tender, flavorful, and always an outstanding cut. The pepercorn steak, a specialty, was perfectly cooked without a burnt crust and still wonderfully tender. The sauces are decadant and the sides hearty. This is not something any meat eater should miss.
