Food
From burgers to Karoo lamb chops, pasta and even ice cream and chocolate sauce (homemade, of course!) this is a perennial family favourite. The softness of the pasta is a giveaway that it's freshly made and, when in season, full of hand-picked wild mushrooms with crispy bacon bits. Revel in the retro feel of peppermint crisp tart when it comes to dessert. The flavours are just as creamy and decadent as you remember!

Wine
Nice mix of varietals by both bottle and glass and well priced.

Service
Long-serving and well versed in the menu, keen to help and anticipate any needs.

Ambience
There's a genuine warmth to this place – perhaps because it's been family-owned since 1992 and regular patrons have become friends. Reed-thatched open rafters add to the spacious feel while the historic prints on walls and tables hark back to a more relaxed era.

And...
Don't be put off by all the iron steeds parked out front and leather-clad bikers inside. They're almost part of the family. (FM, September 2010)

  • We went for dinner at Kalfis. We both ordered the fillet steak which took an hour to prepare. I asked for a few potato skins and ended up getting a pile of deep fried potato peels. My husband ordered the seasonal vegatables and ended up getting mashed sweet potato and sweet potato wedges. Not a good experience.

  • Absolutely wonderful food and friendly service. My fiance had the lamb stew which he says was the best lamb stew he has ever had. My burger was on another level of awesomeness. The birthday cupcake for my fiance and our friend was an added special treat.

  • We've been visting Kalfi's on a few occations and we were quite pleased with their food. Certainly the best spare ribs I've ever had. My fiance had truly South Afican bobotie, with compliments to the Chef! The menu cateres for every need and preferance. Their malva pudding is out of this world! Certainly worth it! We will always eat out @ Kalfi's when in Franschhoek.

  • Really well pleased with the atmosphere, food and service. The 'vetkoek' as an appetiser was perfect and the 'boboti' springroll totally South African - delicious.

  • The atmosphere is good, the staff very friendly, but the main course left a lot to be desired. My Malay chicken curry was completely tasteless, with the chicken floating in a watery broth. The rump steak was well prepared, but half of it was fat. The vegetable bobotie was good. The puddings were lovely - Malva and Jan Ellis both delicious.
