Owner's description

Amongst all the fine-dining establishments of South Africa’s Gourmet Capital, Franschhoek, Leopard’s Leap Family Vineyards introduces an informal and relaxed food-and-wine experience focusing on uncomplicated, fresh and seasonal food, full of flavour and beautifully complimented by Leopard’s Leap wines. Rotisserie-based lunches with tender and juicy meats from the state-of-the-art spit are complimented by an array of farm baked breads as well as a beautiful selection of side dishes such as seasonal salads and roasted vegetables sourced from the organic vegetable and herb garden on the farm. Dessert offers a tempting choice of individual portions such as cake lollies, baked mini-cheesecakes and baby meringues.

The clean and open interior welcomes you with a glass of their fine wine. Simple yet elegant tables and table settings create a feast like atmosphere. As soon as you take a seat, it feels like you just joined the last harvest celebration. Fresh salads are prepared in the open kitchen and served harvest style. The fragrance of different foods fills the air. Each guest can dish their own salads and choose from their delicious rotisserie meats that includes chicken, pork belly, beef or lamb pie. Freshly baked desserts are displayed and offers a big variety. After having your fresh and delicious meal, the lawn with big old trees offers a relaxation for mom and dad and a play ground for the kids. Definitely worth the trip out to Franschoek! We can recommend them for their amazing fresh food, especially the pork belly and tiramisu!!
The 'harvest table' concept is perfect for big groups and there is a wonderful outdoor area for the kids to roam free. The food is delicious (although the salads were somewhat depleted & weren't going to be replenished when we ate at 2pm). The most delicious chicken, butternut and lime bake meant that a number of us didn't bother to get meat from the rotisserie. For those who did, the pork was the star of the show - a generous portion with a complete round of crackling! There is a separate kids' menu with toasted sarmies, ribs etc. The only downside is the 'canteen-ish' feel to the restaurant - it wouldn't be my choice for a quiet leisurely lunch - and the service, which errs on the slow side (yes, it's a help-yourself-concept so food service is not a problem, but we had to flag our waiter down for wine, the bill etc). There is a fantastic shop next to the entrance, selling an array of ceramics and cooks' things.
I was horrified when I visited Leopards Leap. There has to be some illegal substances in the food because food cannot be this good!! The food is amazing! The service is brilliant! This is how a business makes regular customers, you woo them with a brilliant product, excellent service and a beautifull venue. I'll make sure to visit much more often!

Fabulous food, very fresh, excellent service and surprisingly affordable. Wine and cocktails of the day were delicious. Don't miss this experience.
