Owner's description

Our new menu at Longtable has been designed to offer the diners the opportunity to take a journey through a diverse range of flavours and textures. With assistance of former tutor, Stellenbosch legend Michael Broughton from Terroir, young Head Chef Charles N. Joubert has come up with a menu that reflects Charles's penchant for creativity and freshness. He brings with him a passion for finely crafted food and a palate attuned to food and wine matching. A ten item, seasonally orientated offering awaits, our interpretation of modern South African cuisine, and a fitting match for the multi award winning Haskell wines. Set amongst beautiful surroundings and vineyards, Longtable promises a tranquil country setting that is unpretentious yet convivial.

Louise Hechter, STRAND: Sunday 24 June 2018 LUCH @ Longtable On Sunday 24 June 2018, myself and 60 of my closest friends and family, took a 50th birthday journey through Longtable and Haskellvinyard’s diverse range of flavors and textures, pairing Beef Wellington with three times gold winner 2017,Merlot. Winemaker, Rianie Strydom really “outdid” herself with this beauty. Head Chef Charles Joubert’s menu reflects creativity and passion and both food and wine, a match made in heaven. Operational Manager, Barbara Mackenzie and her team kept the service to a five star level and Barbara’s warm approach and open channels of communication was a refreshing experience. Set amongst such beautiful surrounding and vineyards, Longtable and its country setting will for sure be the topic on my friends & families tongues for months to come. We really had an immensely good time and what a pleasure to enter my fifties in such a way. Thank you Haskell Vineyards, Longtable, Barbara Mackenzie, Charles Joubert and team. Five star rating for food, service and ambiance. Best wishes until we meet again, Louise Hechter, Strand, friends and family.
Long Table Restaurant is situated on a beautiful piece of property with scenic views of the mountains, vineyards and surrounding farms. We were a group of 9 (7 adults and 2 children) and sat outside. I found the restaurant to be quite rustic and the food maybe a little expensive. I had the fish of the day which was Cape Salmon, my husband had the Pork Belly, both okay. Our kids enjoyed their beef burger and potato rounds. For kids there is a small jungle gym around the corner for children and a adjacent field where they can run and play. The children's menu had 3-4 choices. There used to be a kiddies box which you paid extra for to entertain kids but this apparently no longer exists, despite being on a sheet menu? Dessert for me was very average. The meringue with lemon curd and seasonal berries came recommended and didn't blow me away. My kids had their ice cream with choc sauce which was awful. The sauce was not chocolate and more toffee if anything. It was bitter and bland. We did bring this to the kitchen's attention and were offered a credit for the ice creams which was appreciated. I was undecided about this venue - it somehow didn't tick my boxes and underwhelmed me sadly.

Stunning setting for a brilliant restaurant. Great! The food is simply amazing, especially the lamb and venison dishes. A perfect venue for a quiet and lazy Sunday lunch in the Winelands.

What a lovely surprise! I don't get to go out for breakfast a lot, so when we decided to escape as a family and have breakfast in Stellenbosch, our friends recommended the Long Table... Hmmm - we had a not so nice lunch there when they first opened so I was not too keen, but we went anyway!
Not being able to eat eggs I normally end up having a sandwich but they were very accommodating and allowed me to order the scrambled eggs with salmon and no eggs, which made my day, really. Both my son and husband loved their food which was inovative but yet delicious. The setting is fantastic and all you want to do is stay until sunset! Of course now I can't wait to go back for lunch.

My first visit was an invitation for a friends kitchen tea in November. Now I cannot stay away! My boyfriend took me to Long Table for Valentine's evening, and despite the power outage in the area, the staff carried on as if nothing was wrong, the food arrived, as delicious and well presented as always, and because of the lack of music (not missed in the beautiful surroundings) a friend of the staff arrived with his guitar to provide background music. There is a lot of love in this place; you can feel it when you arrive. Well done to chef Corli and her team. You are by far the most amazing restaurant in the Winelands. I cannot wait to be back...this weekend!
