Owner's description

With a decent variety on their wine list and an Italian menu boasting items like veal piccata, penne pesto, classical Italian dessert options like tiramisu and much more to choose from, this Green Point Italian spot is one worth popping in to.

I really love their food - real traditional Italian with some unusual specials if you ask. Everyone very friendly without being overbearing. I love the homeliness and personal attention, not to mention the pastas and veal.
We went on our first date night in a loooong time, have 2 kids under 4. We love Italian food and was excited to drive through but felt like we were bothering the waiters and not welcome at all.Rude service, fair food-not worthwhile. As a hospitality professional and chef myself, I have alot of respect for chefs and waiters who put in alot of work and long hours but on my worst day, I would never treat a customer in such a manner...Delicious Melanzane though.Word of advice-do not get over confident, the customer still matters and the essence of hospitality was not what we experienced...Definitely won't be back.
Sadly I note very dated reviews on 'Mario's' the longstanding Green Point Italian restaurant. Everyone can have their say, but whoever Mr. Tennant is or was, Mario has been deceased for many years, so he was certainly not in the restaurant in 2015. However his charming modest and wonderful wife Pina Marzagalli was, and is there. Yes the menu is more concise now, and yes there is now a pizza oven, and like everywhere in Cape Town, prices have risen. That said, the delicious daily specials list includes consistently delicious dishes, always memorable and suited for all seasons. This venue has a deservedly loyal following and they must be doing something right having been around since 1971. We treasure every visit, do rediscover it, if you have not been for a while!
Mario does not care about the quality of food that comes out of her kitchen, all she is interested is collecting the money, you will find her behind her cash box. Mario services seafood bowl of which 6 of her mussels are still closed. I said i will report her to the health department and she said she is not scared, terrible attitude. The other guest complained for the amount of food received and she said she knows the portions are small as she did not have enough food. During the meal other people walked out when they received there food(scraps). The waiters and waitresses are so pleasant. We asked for the bill and added the service charge for the waiter and Mario came over and told the waiter that they had to refund the service charge, so she even takes that away from her staff, what a dreadful person. Mario and her restaurant is a disgrace to Cape Town.
Possibly the worst restaurant in Cape Town. Terribly slow service. Tasteless food slapped down on the table and no follow up by the only waiter. First and last time
