What an interesting place, with so much to see and explore within the property. Its like you have been transported to rural France, you actually forget you are in Johannesburg. The menu is French inspired but definitely not pretentious. Staff go out of their way and the food is simply delicious. Clearly there has been a management change since the last reviews were posted.
All I can say is shocking!! My husband and I went there for our wedding anniversary. First off he booked 2 months in advance, however, when we arrived there was no table actually reserved. I repeated myself twice to the waiter and he had no clue. He pointed to a section of tables against a wall and said we could sit at any of those ones. We eventually decided to sit around the corner in the sun, near the bathrooms. We ordered a bottle of red wine, which was so warm it was undrinkable. My husband asked for an ice bucket to attempt to cool it down and we had to have something else in the meantime. I had salmon carpaccio for starter, incredibly disappointing, it was salmon on a plate that's it. My husband had the soup and he said that was quite tasty. Mains were even worse, I chose the duck and it was so tough not even my husband could cut into it, I gave up trying and didn't even eat my mains. He had the steak, which was I over done. Absolutely starving we decided to n at least attempt dessert to get something in our stomachs. Well, if I thought it could not get any worse, I was wrong. They were horrific. Besides that, my husband organised flowers for me as a surprise and they had not brought it by the time we had our mains, he had to get up to ask for it. They charged him R400 for them and besides being in the ugliest vase I've ever seen, they were dying. The roses were so wilted. It was an absolute joke. He spent so much time going backwards and forwards with the woman on email and they were told it was for an anniversary. It seems they've become a little too big for boots. Their name alone won't save them for much longer.
