Food
Moyo offers a rich gamut of African cuisine, from Moroccan tagines to bobotie and boerewors. Meat-lovers should go for the springbok carpaccio, fillet khuzwayo (marrow bones topped with fillet and béarnaise sauce) and the spicy lamb m’choui (roasted with Moroccan cumin and sweet paprika). Treat yourself with toasted almond ice cream or Tunisian baklava.

Wine
A good list with something for most tastes. No BYO.

Service
Generally very good and friendly, but can slow down when they are really busy.

Ambience
It’s a vibrant African party in a very large multi-storeyed venue, with face-painting at your table and live music. In summer, the deck offers a view of Robben Island just across the water. It’s the place to be, dangling your tootsies in a pond while you eat.

And...
Booking is essential. Moyo is family- and tourist-friendly, so don’t expect intimate moments here. (GL, October 2011)

  • Experienced for the first time as a venue for a year end function. Expensive and each course was reliably up there with the worst restaurant food I have ever eaten

  • What an awesome experience. Had the buffet breakfast and it is awesome and five star food. From the moment you walk in and your hands are cleaned, to the way taken to your table. Your face could be painted if interested. The decor is awesome, the vibe is great but the best is the food. There is definitely something for anyone and you would not leave hungry. Start with the fresh fruit , yogard, croissants, cheeses, salami's, hams, excetera. Then there are the mieliepap, niertjies, sosages, bacon and much more. Freshly baked bread. I ended my meal with freshly baked flapjacks , syrup and whipped cream. This for only R99.00 and for R120 you get bottomless coffee. This is my treat from now on every month as you are looking over the ocean and enjoying our culture and heritage

  • The food was great but the service was absolutely the worst after I (a student) tipped 10% on the bill the manager approached me about tipping more. I've never in my life experienced this. When I asked the waiter for details on how they serve their steaks she said hard. This is the worst restaurant experience ever wont recommend them.

  • We went to Moyo on a beautiful sunny Sunday with a group of friends and our children. It was a disaster from beginning to end! Our friend ordered a baby chicken, it took the waiter half an hour to inform us they had run out of chicken. We then ordered Coke Light or Coke Zero. They had run out of both? Pick n Pay is a 1 minute walk from the restaurant. The kiddie portions were extremely small. And the cherry on top was my friends beef salad eventually arrived after we had all finished eating our meals. She had to take it home as a takeaway. Ridiculous! We spoke to the manager regarding all of the above, he was useless and clearly could not cope with the Sunday crowd! Sadly, I will never go to this restaurant again!

  • Much like Matthew, we feel this is a formulaic, tourist-focused, ambience-focused place - the food is definitely not the thing. Indeed, I suspect there isn't a cordon-bleu chef in sight in that kitchen... which is a pity as Blouberg desperately needs a classy food spot - and has none. Service is better, though that might be because we're really local and they know us - and the location can't be beat. The food, sadly, is its Achilles heel.

  • I was at Moyo Blouberg yesterday for my parents wedding anniversary and I wont be returning. Its my feeling that both the Moyo restaurants that I have been to (Stellenbosch and Blouberg) suffer from the same tourist trap disease. Overpriced, average food are the order of the day. At the Blouberg branch, the service was slow and the music was so loud that we requested to be moved outside. My chicken was cold and the other guests food was tough and average tasting, as well as overpriced. Nice if youre a tourist wanting to experience African food (although there are far better places for this) but in my humble opinion it isnt for us locals.

  • After experiencing the amazing service of Moyo Spier where youre invited to warm fires during the winter and joyful singing, I was excited to see what a Moyo at the beach would be like. Arriving on a Thursday night without a booking we were lucky enough to get a table at close to the stage, was a young man singing melodies of an African dream creating the perfect atmosphere. Expecting the food to complete the circle of our journey into Africa, our mains of lamb mechoui and flamed fillet my heart almost dropped. The portions were small as we opted for no starters as Moyo main portions are more than enough. The lamb was under spiced had to add seasoning with the small amount of meat pieces. I could count the pieces of vegetable on one hand. I was so hungry and disappointed afterward I had to head to Mac Donald’s.

  • I was originally put off from having my birthday dinner at Moyo Blouberg after I had read the previous reviews. I did share my concerns with the person taking the reservation and managers and I was assured I would have a night to remember. I really would like to say that it was a night to remember I had my birthday dinner on May 15th and the night went really well. We had great service, the waiters were friendly and accommodating of all our needs, our food for 15 people arrived at almost the same time, and it we were able to eat at the same time. All of us enjoyed our food and no one had any complaints. The staff were friendly and I really had an enjoyable and memorable birthday. I would recommend more people to go there and if there is anything they are not happy with, they should talk to the managers as I found them very accommodating and willing to listen and change things accordingly.

  • Friday evening at Moyo turned out to be one of the most amazing restaurant experiences of our lives. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, the staff was friendly, the service was impeccable and the food was heavenly. At one point some guys sang and played soothing African music next to our table and some other time girls washed our hands. We both had the Flamed Fillet. Peppadews, mushrooms, wild spinach, mozzarella stuffed beef fillet with Madagascan green peppercorn, the peppadew and cream resulted in a nothing less than surreal taste sensation and experience. If you are looking for an memorable evening, you have to give this place a visit. It has breathtaking views, a vibrant atmosphere, beautiful interior design and mouthwateringly delicious food. This will be the first place I think of taking friends. Particularly if they are from inland or from abroad.

  • Another bad experience Im sorry to say. This is my second visit to Moyo Bluberg and it was not up up to scratch again. We were seven friends celebrating a birthday and two of the meals were palatable. The chicken dish was inedible (it had way too much salt in it), the chickpea and spinach pie was hard and peppery and the service was slow (with the waiter not bothering to stop and take your order, but doing it mid-way to the next table or outside to chat with the other staff). What a pity - as it is a truly magical setting with the most awesome views possible.

  • What a shocking experience. I was really impressed by the look of the restaurant, the concept is amazing and creative, but the service is shocking and the food even worse. Being in the industry myself I never want to be a difficult customer, but I couldnt help complaining about the cheese platter which must have been in the fridge for weeks and the manager trying to tell me that it is fresh. The service is slow or non-existant and the food and drinks take forever to arrive (if ever). Being a fan of Moyo @ Spier I think they should close before they kill their reputation.

  • They have rested on the stellar reputation of the Spier branch! They have geared the restaurant to fleece tourists. The service is diabolical and the food (if it ever comes) is unimaginative and often cold. My wife ordered a medium to well steak (as recommended by her doctor as she was pregnant). After 60 minutes it came rare and cold. When asked to cook it further, they claimed that this was impossible as the grill cookers were off for the night! Eat here at your own peril. Never again!
