The menu offers up an extensive selection of traditional Greek dishes with the occasional modern twist. Start with a selection of meze – the fried halloumi arrives crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, and the crispy zucchini fries are the perfect pre-meal snack. Or opt for the ‘dip and eat’, which features a selection of dips including a creamy tzatziki, silky smooth tahini and hummus, all of which are perfect for lathering on slices of pita bread.
For mains, the coal-grilled souvlaki (pork, chicken or beef) are available either on a plate or as a yiro. The latter has various filling options, such as the ‘Limnos’, with roasted brinjal and tahini, and the Paros with feta and peri salsa, from which to choose.
Pescetarians can indulge in beautiful king prawns to be dipped in lemon butter or the Nikos spicy sauce, while vegetarians can take their pick from a substantial meze selection or falafel and chickpea yiros. Those not in the mood for souvlaki may relish in the kreas (meat) options, such as the skinny coal-grilled chops or the lamb burger made with a bifteki patty.
End off the meal with a sweet Greek treat like halva ice cream or the sweet and sticky flaky layers of a baklava. Pair with a Greek coffee.
The wine list, while small and not particularly exciting, offers up a fair share of local favourites – the majority of which are served by the glass. The cocktail offering is more enticing, with a selection of G&Ts and mojitos that offer different flavour combinations.
The staff are warm, inviting and happy to help with menu queries, suggestions and recommendations. Food arrives hot and timeously.
Situated within the bustling Pineslopes centre, Nikos manages to create its own little atmosphere, attracting a diverse mix of clientele. In sticking to the Greek theme, décor plays with blues and whites. The restaurant is busy and buzzing, creating a great vibe for lunch.
