Food
The quality of the food is as good as the menu is diverse. The menu includes various noteworthy seafoods, and it’s hard to overlook Mediterranean-inspired dishes like the generous meze platter.

Wine
A well-constructed list with a handpicked selection of special bottles and good by-the-glass array.

Service
Fast, friendly and capable.

Ambience
Wraparound windows make a light and airy lunchtime venue, while the biscuit-coloured walls and dark wood finishings give a handsome after-dark look.

And...
There’s a kids’ entertainment area equipped with TV. (TG, September 2010)

  • Olive and Oil … beautiful settings(perfect for a romantic evening out), friendly & helpful staff. However I found it quite uncomfortable to get in & out of my seat, as tables were rather close by. I had booked in advance for a table of 12, as we had a celebration & expected to be seated in a nice corner and not in the ‘middle’ of the restaurant. Also it was so hot in the restuarant we had to step onto the balcony to cool down.
What disappointed me was waiting over 45mins for our mains(thank goodness I ordered Foccacia for the table with our drinks)… my penne pasta(R120 I might add) arrived warm & quite undercooked – also I expected a slightly bigger portion for the price. Being as ravenous as I was I didn’t want bring it to the waiters attention & have to wait any longer. She brought a few bowls of vegetables(which was complimentary-obviously due to the delay).
After having supper, we didn’t even bother to order dessert of coffee as it seemed we would have to rush or would be inconveniencing the restaurant/staff who were already setting up and we were one of the few tables left.
Maybe that was an odd night out but we were disappointed nevertheless, not my first choice to recommend or frequent either.
I would like to add though, that they have an amazing half price lunch deal on Mondays.. my R120 pasta goes for R60/R80.
We found a lovely little chilled out restuarant around the corner who price their pasta at Olive's 'Monday Special' prices ... it's devine & for R85.. well worth it.

  • I would like to thank all of the staff for a fantastic dining experience.

My wife and I visited the restaurant last year April whilst on holiday and had one of our most pleasant dinners ever. Anywhere in the world!

Due to this past experience, we decided to take my in laws to the restaurant tonight. I have to compliment them
on matching and even exceeding our expectations! My wife's 93 year old great grandma was one of our guest and nothing was to much to ask. From an extra chair for her painful knee to a glass of milk to help her swallow as she battles with her digestive system.

Not that any of the food required help to go down!

The food was amazing! The host informed us about rump steak that was available and it was melt in your mouth delicious!!!

The service was great, food fabulous and the atmosphere very welcoming.

I just missed the cinnamon ice cream that you had last time ;-)

We will definitely be back every time we're in Umhlanga.

  • Ordered butternut ravioli but received some other type of penne dish. When the correct order finally arrived, (long after my husband had already finished his food) - the so called "ravioli" dish was nothing more than a tasteless mush . When I complained and refused to pay their attitude was aggressive and confrontational - totally unprofessional. Have never been so badly treated in a restaurant before.

  • I usually love Olive and Oil but I must say I was quite disappointed this month when my husband and I went there for supper. I usually have the same dishes and have also eaten them at the Olive and Oil in Glenwood and Hillcrest. At the Umhlanga branch the portions seem considerably smaller, even in comparison to my previous visit at the same branch. I usually have the camembert and cranberry starter but this time the camembert was cut into small pieces with little cranberry sauce. For mains I had the fishermans platter which was also sad. The wasn't any garlic butter / sauce accompanying the dish, and the rice and veg was quite bland. Even though I live near Umhlanga I will sadly have to go to one of the other branches to enjoy their good food.
