We got a true experience of Ottoman palace during Ramadan, just as the daily fast was broken. The gilded and brightly lit eating hall situated behind the mosque is a true cultural experience. They offer traditional Turkish dishes but we opted for the grilled meat platter, a Turkish version of the South African braai, served with delicious flat breads and dips. As no alcohol is served it gave us an opportunity to try some traditional teas and drinks. A cultural experience.

  • Went to this place yesterday as they had a Turkish festival on. Really looked forward to a grand meal, but was utterly disappointed. So many things on the menu that where unavailable. Waitresses unhelpful and had to be flagged down. Took 45 minutes to bring my kids water. Kitchen and waitresses so un-clued up as to what's happening. Food arrived slowly and for me, the taste profile was pathetic, Everything we ordered tasted the same. If you ordered chicken, beef, mince - it all had the exact same flavour profiles. The Turkish tea, I swear is Earl Grey tea with a hint of cinnamon....Pathetic food, even worse dining experience. Front Desk manager, kept walking past us but gave Turkish consumers favourable attention. They walked in 20 minutes after us and got food first. bottles of water where placed in front for them and fresh bread with dip. I was told it would take 25 minutes for a plate of chips......seriously.....25 minutes....for CHIPS. Will not be dining there ever again and will not encourage others to spend their hard earned money in a very disorganised place.

  • After strolling through the gorgeous mosque next to the Ottoman Palace, we had dinner. The restaurant's decor is cold and more like a cafeteria .. could do a lot more. BUT the food!! We had some bread with 2 dips - unfortunately I didn't ask what it was. The one dip was yoghurty, the other one dark red, so it could have been eggplant-red bell pepper. But it was soo yummy. We were 4 people, so we order 4 platters with a bit of everything on it. Some chicken drumsticks, some chicken kebabs, swish kebabs, minute steak, riblets, flat meatballs, bulgar wheat on the bottom, grilled jalapenos, tomatoes, lettuce and flatbread with a topping. The chicken was unbelievable soft! It was like butter!!!!! Utterly delicious! The rest of the platter was really good and delicious, nicely flavoured. Dessert was Baklava (yummy), rice pudding (good), some other pudding and then - the highlight, dessert with cheese, Kunefe. It's baked in the oven, so it took a while. But it was utterly delightful!!!!!!!! You have to order this!!!!!! We all had cherry juice and I had Turkish coffee. The bill was R850 for 4 people, a total bargain. Really a must visit!

  • Wow! What a place, what an experience! This was a new adventure for my family and we just love the food, the atmosphere and the staff. Walking out to the mosque all lit up in fluorescent and the sound of prayer rounded off a great evening feast. Will definitely be back!

  • We went to Ottoman Palace as a family of 4. Food was arriving one by one at an interval of 15-20 minutes apart. Terrible service, like a slow motion movie, while only other 2 tables were occupied. Food is nothing to write home about. It came cold, very small portions. I had lamb kebab for R90. Few pieces of meat came with 1 table spoon of rice and 2 super thin strips of bread. I am a size 6, 45kg lady, I left hungry.

  • From the picture, we expected opulence and grandeur and this is not what you get. I would class this as casual dining with an extremely limited menu, having said this, we opted for platters and this was delicious. Service is very slow with very limited drinks and no ice.

  • A taste of turkey in the back drop of Midrand. Loved the food! Excellent service, shank stew taste on Friday.

  • Went for dinner at this opulently furnished restaurant, with hand painted ceilings and gorgeous architecture!

We particularly enjoyed the freshly baked bread, mezze platters and uniquely spiced lamb kebabs. Had a lovely evening being entertained by the owner and educated on Turkish food and culture! Watch this space - they are going to do big things!

Although no alcohol is served at this venue, there are many traditional drinks to be tried and enjoyed - and Turkish coffee like you have not had before!

The Mosque itself is open to the public, everyone is welcome, and is breathtaking! There are also shops around the restaurant, selling gifts, traditional fare, fabric and authentic Turkish goodies I have not found elsewhere in Jozi. Great for business functions!

  • What a refreshingly different restaurant. The food was amazing, the "HIndendberg" breads astonishing and the meat outstanding. The music is true Turkish and the hosts very friendly. We also had a tour of the mosque and the mosque gallery. I will highly recommend it for a dining experience with a bit extra.
