This restaurant, a firm Durban favourite, offers an extensive menu that takes in the best of a subcontinent, featuring the signature dishes of both North and South India, plus a small Indo-Chinese selection. Spicing is authentic and vegetarians are exceptionally well catered for. Get munching on the super crisp dosa pancakes of the south, filled with a spicy aloo paratha, followed by treats from the tandoori oven, or a good Kashmiri chicken curry. There’s a lot of flair and flavour here.
The list is a little limited, although it has improved since first opening. The corkage fee is reasonable, so take your own.
Friendly and owner-run. Staff members know the menu well, and dishes arrive at the table in double-quick time.
The eatery may have seen better days, but it’s comfortable and presentable.
Regular buffet options make for exceptional value for money. These can be organised for large parties, too.
Whenever I go to Palki they greet with a smile and make me feel at home. They serve you with the best food.
Anyone in the Durban area who enjoys Indian cuisine and hasn't tried Palki's is in for an experience. Authentic dishes served by waitrons who can recommend dishes according to the customer's preferences. As the menu is in an Indian dialect (excuse my ignorance for not knowing which one). Every time I go I tell the server what I feel like - spicy, sweet, creamy, r ich...and without fail I am blown away with what is presented to me! An inconspicuous doorway next to a fish and chips shop on Musgrave Road leads you up a stairway and into a little taste of India! By far the best Indian food I have tasted outside of India. I would recommend it to anyone without hesitation as I have been there many times and am always, without fail, blown away.
For the finest Indian fare in Durban. Very reasonable too!
Excellent food and friendly service - real Indian food.
